What's the Introduction to the UK Music Industry course about?

This course offers an overview of the UK music industry and is suitable for anyone who wants to get into the UK music industry and who wishes to find out more about UK culture.

The course includes cultural visits to places of interest, including the Beatles Experience (Liverpool), the Science Museum, and the Manchester Academy, in addition to evening excursions to China Town and the Curry Mile.

Areas to be covered on the course include:
- The Industry Overview: organisations, revenue streams, legal considerations, the release process, industry structure and working with intermediaries
- Marketing Music: the audience, marketing tools, online methods, guerrilla marketing, current UK Music and marketing culture
- Managing Yourself: forming a strategy, project managing, taking a product and artist to market
- Creating and Recording the Song: creative writing master class, studio overview, tracking, overdubbing, mixing, mastering

The course is assessed through observation of teamwork and a daily diary of activities.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

The Manchester College offers a range of recognised qualifications, including BTEC National Diplomas and Foundation Degrees, for those who wish to pursue careers in the music industry.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Applicants should have an ability to play a musical instrument or experience as a vocalist.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Introduction to the UK Music Industry course?

This course does not lead to any formal qualifications.
