What's the Legal Secretaries course about?
The Level 2 Certificate for Legal Secretaries aims to develop skills for those wishing to pursue a career in a legal environment as a legal secretary, administrator or personal assistant.
The course covers the following:
Unit 1: Legal Word Processing
- How to present and prepare business and legal documents using word processing software
- How to transcribe business and legal documents using audio equipment
Unit 2: Working in the Legal Environment
- Explain the different organisation structure
- Identify the different branches of the legal profession and explain the roles of key personnel within a legal office
- Explain the role and responsibilities of the legal secretary
- Describe the relevant legislation, policies and procedures that apply to the business environment
- Plan and prioritise own workload and describe the benefits of effective team working
- Describe the importance of establishing and maintaining effective customer relationships
Assessment is by one text production assignment, one audio transcription assignment (both internally assessed by tutors), one proof reading examination (externally assessed), and one working in the legal environment assignment internally assessed by a tutor.
What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?
This course provides a bridge for those wishing to progress through to the ILEX L3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice.
What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?
While no formal qualifications are necessary, you are expected to have intermediate level word processing skills. However, students who have no word processing skills can attend the full-time course.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Legal Secretaries course?
You will be awarded the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Legal Secretaries.
