What's the Machine Woodworking course about?

This course is designed to provide students with a sound knowledge of machine woodworking in a safe manner, following up-to-date regulations.

The following will be covered on the course:
- Safe use of woodworking machinery
- Setting up and maintaining machinery
- Identification and selection of materials
- Construction of joinery and furniture items

Students are assessed on practical and written work produced throughout the course.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

In addition to becoming employed as wood machinists in sawmills and joinery workshops, or furniture/cabinet makers, students can go on to work towards technical and supervisory positions. There are also opportunities to study towards furniture making and bench hand joinery certificates.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

No formal qualifications are required, but a reasonable proficiency in communication, arithmetic and manual skills is an advantage.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Machine Woodworking course?

Students will be awarded a Construction Skills Diploma in Machine Woodworking at Level 2.
