How to apply

If you have decided on the ideal course for you, the next step is to apply. The way in which you apply is dependent upon the type of course you have selected and whether you are currently resident in the UK or another country.

Once you have all the information you require to make your course choice, complete an application as soon as possible.

You can apply at any time of the year, although it is advisable to apply as early as possible – the closer you leave it to the course start date, the more likely it is that there will be a waiting list for places.

Interview

The interview process is designed to ensure that you are offered a place on a course that will give you the best opportunity to achieve success. As soon as we receive your application form, we'll invite you to attend an interview at the sixth form centre you'd like to study at. Here, you'll have the opportunity to discuss your options and goals with one of our tutors and will be able to find out more about being a student at The Manchester College.

Offer of a conditional place

If we think that you are on the right track with your application, you will be offered a conditional place, which means that you will be able to enrol on your chosen course as long as you get the qualification grades needed to meet the entry requirements.

Next steps if your first application is not the course for you

If you are not successful at interview, we will work with you to find an alternative course at the college that will help you achieve your goals. Places are allocated to applicants on a 'first come, first served' basis. For this reason, we encourage you to apply as quickly as possible.

Fax, post or email your completed application form back to the college. (The addresses are provided on the form.) If you are applying for a course that is not English language or summer school, you must send us copies of your qualifications translated into English.

Offer letter

Offers for academic courses are made by the course tutors and this process usually takes around two weeks.

If you are successful we will send you an offer letter, offering you a place on the course. This letter includes our bank details and a request for a deposit. Please be aware that this offer letter will not help you apply for a student visa.

Deposit

You can pay your deposit by Electronic Funds Transfer or by cheque or banker’s draft.

Acceptance letter

We will send you an acceptance/visa letter and your receipt for the deposit paid, so that you can apply for a visa. You must take this acceptance/visa letter to your local British Embassy or High Commission to apply for a UK study visa. Should you require further help in obtaining a visa, please contact the International Admissions Office. You must retain the original receipt in case you are unable to secure a visa and require a refund.

If you are refused a visa you can apply for a refund of fees from the college by supplying your visa refusal letter. A charge of £150 will be deducted for administration.

Full payment of fees at enrolment

The full balance owing on your tuition fees should be paid when you arrive at the college. Failure to do this will mean that you will not have full use of the college facilities, particularly the libraries.

Students who have not been ordinarily resident in the UK/European Union for three years and/or are subject to immigration control are required to pay full cost fees.

Accommodation

You can download (or we can send you) an accommodation request form which should be returned to the Accommodation Officer as soon as possible. The form enables you to give us all the information we need in order to help you find comfortable and suitable accommodation in Manchester.

Our Accommodation Officer will help you to find suitable accommodation while you are at college. We require a minimum of four weeks’ notice and £100 deposit.

Download and print the accommodation request form.
