What are the aims of this course?

This course offers a practical approach to learning and one through which and you will be encouraged to develop your initiative. You will find business studies to be a relevant and rewarding subject, which will teach you the day-to-day practices of businesses, along with the study of the strategies business managers and owners use to succeed in an increasingly competitive market. Business studies is a problem solving subject so the focus of the course revolves around solving business problems and making business decisions.

What are the areas covered by this course?

On the AS level (Year 1) you will study:
- Planning and financing a business
- Managing a business

On the A level (Year 2) you will study:
- Strategies for success
- The business environment and managing change

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Five GCSEs at grade C or four at grade B, including Maths and English.

How is the course assessed?

You will be assessed by written examinations.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded an AS level in Business Studies and an A level in Business Studies. You will also have the opportunity to complete Functional Skills that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation, and problem solving.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

Successful completion of the course, in combination with other AS or A levels, can lead directly to a wide range of higher education courses. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

What are the career opportunities?

AS/A level in Business Studies can be used in a wide variety of career areas, including business, industry and commerce, banking, insurance, public services, accountancy and finance, marketing, sales and human resource management. Specialist careers advice will be available from our Advice and Guidance Team throughout your course.
