We work effectively with sector skills councils to respond to the training demands of employers across a wide range of sectors. Below you will find a range of professional development brochures outlining some of the specialist sector specific training we offer, from one day refresher courses to professional qualifications. In addition, you will see that we have an 'Essential Training for Business' brochure that contains courses that are relevant to all kinds of businesses, regardless of the sector.
Organisations based in Greater Manchester can now access FREE mentoring training with the help of The Manchester College.
Normally costing £571 per person, the training is designed to give existing employees the skills needed to mentor new starters.
Mentoring has benefits for all:
The training is a 20 hour course, normally delivered over a 2-4 week period. Groups or individuals welcome.
This funding opportunity is only available for a limited period so book now to avoid disappointment. For further information, contact our Business Support Team on 0800 068 8585, and select option 1 or email bst@themanchestercollege.ac.uk
Flexibility and customisation are key features of our courses. Depending on the needs of your organisation, we can design courses from scratch to fulfil the training demands of your workforce, or we can adapt our existing courses to ensure the content is highly relevant to your industry, sector or organisation. We'll work with you to establish your exact needs and then deliver the training that's right for you, at a time and place to suit your individual requirements.

In light of the recent economic downturn, redundancy may seem like the most obvious option when you are struggling to keep overheads down and remain competitive. But it’s not the only option. We can work with employers to retrain those under threat of redundancy so that they can fill other vacancies within the organisation.
We can also work with the rest of your workforce to ensure their skills are up-to-date through our Train to Gain and workforce development programmes. Such training can help promote a positive attitude in the work place and even give your organisation the competitive edge. The training is fully funded and can be delivered in the workplace or at one of our centres in Manchester.

Apprenticeships offer an attractive, cost-effective way to develop highly skilled and productive employees. Apprentices bring up-to-date skills in new technologies to the job to share with other staff, contributing to increased productivity and motivation in the workforce. Participating in an Apprenticeship programme ensures that you will have skilled and loyal employees that are not only trained to industry standards, but that understand the unique values of your organisation. Ultimately, Apprenticeship training can have a positive impact on customer satisfaction and your business reputation.
If you have a gap in your workforce that could be filled by an apprentice, or you have existing staff (aged 16-25) who could qualify for an Apprenticeship, we can work with you to make it happen. Apprentices usually spend four days per week in the work place and one day per week training at college. This ensures that they learn the practical skills that employers require and the theoretical and support skills needed to achieve a recognised qualification. Apprentices are paid by their employer while they are training and learning, but employers are entitled to funding from the Learning and Skills Council to help with costs.
To find out if your business could benefit from participating in our Apprenticeship scheme, contact our Business Support Team or visit the government's Apprenticeships website.
If you consistently have problems finding a sufficient number of suitable applicants for a particular post, your organisation could benefit from our pre-employment training. We can work with you to design a programme that will give unemployed people the skills and knowledge needed to access jobs within your organisation.
Using our own facilities, we can deliver training that gives participants the skills and confidence to apply for and maintain employment. We can then work with you to organise work trials, which will allow you to get to know the candidates prior to interview.
On completion of the programme, you will have a group of applicants who know exactly what the job will entail and who are excited about the prospect of working for your organisation. Once in work, they are supported and monitored by us for an agreed period before undertaking further training leading to NVQs.

A work placement is an ideal way to benefit from a student’s skills and knowledge. We have thousands of students of all ages who are gaining skills in the latest technologies, business techniques and processes across all business sectors in readiness for employment. Your business could benefit from offering students work placements because they allow you the opportunity to appraise the potential of possible future employees and learn from their up-to-date knowledge and skills.
It’s a great opportunity for students as well, as they really do value the practical experience and contacts that they gain from work placements. We work closely with employers to ensure that the work placement is mutually beneficial to both the organisation and the student and we provide support and assistance to organise the work placement and ensure that it runs smoothly.

If you want to improve your organisation’s productivity and maximise your competitive advantage, why not access free training for your workforce through Train to Gain? This government inititiative was introduced to ensure that employees have all the skills they need to do their job properly, including literacy and numeracy. It is primarily aimed at employees who do not already hold a qualification at level 2 (this is equivalent to five GCSEs at grade A-C) or a higher qualification.
We can help you find out whether your employees are eligible for Train to Gain funding and we can offer advice on claiming funding to compensate you for the time your employees are away from the work place. We have a range of vocational qualifications to suit all personnel who play a vital role in the day-to-day life of a business, from finance and administrative staff to team leaders and customer service staff.
