Assessment of your needs

Before you start your course you will meet with a specialist support worker to carry out an in depth assessment of your needs. You are actively encouraged through the use of agreed targets to achieve your maximum level of independence.

We give support on an individual or group basis in session, and within the wider college environment for example on trips and visits.

If you have a specific learning difficulty / disability such as Aspergers, ADHD, ADD that makes learning harder this service helps you to:

  • Make arrangements to visit the college or meet up on an open day and get a guided tour
  • Identify what support you need before you start your course
  • Stay in College and achieve on your course
  • Access other College services and activities
  • Learn the skills that you need for working life or Higher Education
  • Develop your independence in the wider college environment
  • Use specialist equipment by providing training
  • Develop independence skills including travel training
  • Develop self - advocacy skills
  • Learn and participation in College
  • Develop social skills and confidence levels

What should you do?

  • Make sure that you have disclosed on your application and/or enrolment form.
  • If you are on a course, ask for a referral through your tutor or visit your student services team, or e-mail to the address below.
